Reese Witherspoon 60 Minutes Interview

On Sunday, Reese Witherspoon was on 60 Minutes for an interview about her life and to discuss her movie production company.

It was especially fun for me to watch because she was interviewed at my alma mater, Harpeth Hall! I went to Harpeth Hall for 4 years in Nashville and so did my mother and all of my aunts. I graduated from a boarding school instead but I still have a million memories from middle school and high school at the all-girls private prep school:

 (image via instagram @harpeth_hall)

I remember during lunch we would eat in the cafeteria next to her senior picture, which was included with the rest of  the class of 1994:

It was up on the wall next to all of the other senior picture collages in the cafeteria so you actually had to look hard to find her!

Reese was a child star so she has been famous since before I could remember, but I have been especially impressed with all that she has done lately- she has started her movie production company  Pacific Standard, which focuses on producing movies about strong or complicated women. One of these movies was Gone Girl which I ABSOLUTELY loved (I wrote a mini review about it here)! As you probably know, her newest movie Wild is currently in theaters and I have been dying to see it!

In case you missed the interview this Sunday, you can watch it below. She discusses how the felt her divorce is what caused the slump in her acting career, and how her own family experiences inspired her production career and her leading role in Wild. Don't miss it!

Watch her interview here!!

Let me know what you think!!

Clinique December Gift Bag!

Yesterday after work I ran by the Clinique section at Dillard's to pick up some face cream and mascara. The Junior League gated parking lot next to the mall is really coming in handy during this time of year- and I am done with all my Christmas shopping so this was a stress-free mall trip for me! Yay!

Anyways, I wanted to let you all know about the FABULOUS gift bag Clinique is giving out right now! They always have adorable gift bags, but in case any of you are looking for last minute Christmas gifts in the mall, you can get this bag free with a $55.00 purchase!

Oh my gosh. How cute is this bag? Here is all the stuff you'll find inside:

Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief mini: This moisturizer is unlike anything I've ever tried.. it is a really thin texture and works instantly! It has rapid refreshment and a full 12-hours of soothing moisture with a by-a-waterfall feel. Advanced hydration boosters and a new botanical blend locks in and holds skin's moisture through stressful shifts in humidity.

Lash Power Doubling Mascara mini (.14 oz.): I have posted about my love for this mascara before! It magnifies lashes to twice their size and thickens them to max volume in minimum time. Definitely one of the best mascaras I've ever tried.

A Different Lipstick mini (in a different grape): The color is less dark and more natural looking than the picture I took above! I am not a big lipstick person, but Clinique says it is different because of its smooth, comfortable feel.

Deep Comfort Hand and Cuticle Cream mini (1.3 oz): I love this stuff! It has a nice lemon scent to it. It treats hands to a 12-hour hydration with soothing comfort and conditions nails and cuticles. It  strengthens the skin's moisture barrier against environmental stress. It also boosts skin's ability to retain moisture so hands look and feel smoother.

..and don't forget about their cosmetics bag this time. It is gorge. Just look at the bag on its own!!!

This really is probably my favorite bag they've ever had... and it was FREE! (well, free with a purchase!) I really am hooked on Clinique but I never have had any buyer's remorse with anything I've ever bought there and the products last me a long time. The sales people are also SO friendly, nice and helpful, so I always enjoy shopping with them in person.

Readers, what are your fav Clinique  products?

iPhone 6 Review!!

I am so excited because after so much waiting I finally got an iPhone 6! I had to wait over a week to have the Verizon store mail it to me since there were none in the Nashville area. After the (rude) Verizon salesman at the store on Charlotte tried to send my phone to the wrong address in our  building, and then waiting an hour yesterday on the phone with a Verizon rep trying to have the new phone activated, it is finally up and working!

After a long wait it was all worth it. I have had the phone less than 24 hours so I'm still learning about it, but these are the most notable features I have found so far:

The phone is bigger- it is much thinner and lighter than the iPhone 5 but the screen is wayyyy larger and taller- I have already dropped it twice because I'm not used to handling it (I'm still waiting on my case to be mailed to me and I wish it would get here because I'm such a klutz with this thing!)

The buttons are in totally different places than any of the previous iPhones. The lock key is on its side and there are new volume buttons on the left of the screen. I'm still trying to get used to them!

Be careful when applying the sticky protective screen cover. The screen is really big so it is very hard to apply the sticky screen without air bubbles. It took me 3 tries with 2 different sticky screens to apply it correctly, and it still doesn't look as great as I'd like.

Your photos and music from your other phone won't show up right away like before. I almost flipped when only 5 of my photos showed up from iCloud. I thought they were gone and lost in iPhone limbo forever! I was not happy.. photos are important to me especially now that I don't have a Facebook account saving them all! Fortunately they all showed up by the next morning. I guess it takes a really long time to load them from iCloud onto this new phone model.

Also, my music from my old phone (897 songs- most of them paid for on iTunes or CDs) did not download once I activated my phone and were stuck in the iCloud. I freaked when I saw all my music missing, but then I read online to hook my phone up to my laptop where iTunes is.. fortunately all the songs showed up and downloaded once I did that.

The camera is much better. I haven't gotten to use my phone much yet but I can already tell the pictures are better quality. There is also a camera timer included on the camera- so you can take selfies from far away! Just prop your phone up on something or put it on a tripod and you can take a hands free selfie! It will give you up to 10 seconds to pose for your photo. Here is a selfie I (and Leo and Missy...) took with a camera timer:

Text messages are more convenient. If you miss or ignore a call from someone you can choose from different "busy" or "away responses" (you can save custom messages too!)

A predictive keyboard learns your texting style and will generate responses for you when someone texts you a question:

You have faster access to contacts. No more scrolling over to the contacts icon for your recent texts. The initials of the people you've had recent conversations with will be at the top of the screen- just double click the home button and tap the person's initials icon to quickly text them. Here's an example from my phone:

Touch ID: your fingerprint unlocks your iPhone 6 and lets you make iTunes and App Store purchases. I don't use a passcode to unlock my phone (I have nothing to hide!) so I haven't used this feature yet.

Personally, I love the new phone! It is much easier to use than my iPhone 5. The iPhone 6 Plus is really cool too- please let me know if any of you have one and how it has worked out for you! Readers, have you gotten the iPhone 6 yet? Let me know what you think!

Beanie vs. Toboggan

Okay guys, see this winter knit cap?

Well, growing up in Nashville I always 100% of the time heard of these hats being referred to as a beanie. In the stores, in conversation, everywhere.

These were really in style when I was in middle school and high school (during my Abercrombie days) and they now seem to be making a comeback. Last weekend I was at a bar Friday night and saw a table of 6 girls all wearing "beanies" with tribal knit cardigans. Well, not until this year (2014) have I ever heard that a beanie is the completely, totally weird and wrong name for it-- and that it is actually called-- get this---  a Toboggan

I had always thought that a toboggan is a wooden sled:

.. or a hat that has tassels like this:

NOT a winter hat like the ones that these celebs are wearing:

I have been told both by an attorney I work with and a male friend of mine that TOBOGGAN has always been the correct name, and a beanie is the strangest word for it ever. They both grew up in the South too! I am starting to feel like an alien from another planet!

Guys, please help me here.. for next time this debate comes up. Is it called a toboggan or a beanie? What word do you use for this hat?????

Stitch Fix: Round 3!!

Last week I got my third delivery from Stitch Fix! You can read my Review #1 and Review #2 for a more thorough explanation, but Stitch Fix is an online personal styling service that mails you 5 items of clothing or jewelry (called your "fix) to try on, and you keep what you want to buy. It is a $20.00 styling fee, so if you buy anything, that $20.00 goes towards your purchase, and if you buy all five items you get 25% off your entire order! You first fill out an online survey about your size and personal style, and each month the stylist learns better how to style you.

After not much luck with Stitch Fix the last 2 months, I had decided that this was my last try and if I didn't find anything I wanted then I would cancel my service with them. It also is the holidays and I have been more interested in buying things for others than myself! But I was really, really happy with what my stylist sent me this time!

I had written a note to them beforehand like I always do to give them some kind of direction of what to look for this month. I told them I wanted:

- red or green skinny jeans
- leopard scarf
- hounds tooth button down shirt

These were pretty specific requests, but I thought it could point them in the right direction since last month was kind of a failure

This is what they sent me:

Fix #1: Polka Dot Print Blouse by Market and Spruce

My Thoughts: This top was gorgeous. You can't really tell from the lighting in the photo, but it was a very pretty navy blue and white print! It was really nice material and I liked the cut of the neckline and the 3/4 sleeves! Also, navy blue goes with almost any color! The only issue was that it had a slit in the sides, and it also flared out at the top which made it look like a maternity shirt. Definitely not the look I was going for. Even though it took some debating, I decided that I shouldn't pay $50.00 for a shirt that made me look pregnant. I loved it, though.

Status: Sent back.

Fix #2: Caius Straight Leg Jean by Level 99

My Thoughts: I loved these- they were exactly what I'd asked for! They were so comfy and fit perfect! The shade of red was pretty unique and I had been looking for pants like these for a while now.

Status: Kept them!

Fix #3: 3/4 Sleeve Tie Waist Dress by Collective Concepts

My Thoughts: This dress was gorge. I loved the green and I am always looking for green clothes because its a color you can wear year round and you don't see green in the stores often enough. It fit perfect and was really flowy and could be dressed up or down. I really could have worn it to work or anywhere and it could have gotten a lot of use! It is also a perfect holiday dress.

Status: I loved it, but since it cost $88.00 and I am on a holiday budget, I had to pass :(

Fix #4: Kalia Faux Leather Shaw Jacket by Mystree

My Thoughts: Okay, when I first saw this jacket, I didn't like it. It looked too crazy for me. I had also misread the item on the price list and had thought it was way more expensive than it actually was (I had confused it with another item I was sent). Then I tried it on and it was the most comfortable, soft jacket ever! I could sleep in it! This shaw/jacket is actually part sweater, part fleece, and part pleather jacket. It looks SO cool on!!! And looks way more expensive than it actually is ($80.00). I had never seen anything like this before and I decided it was a must have. Anyways, this is what Stitch Fix is all about- trying new things that are out of your comfort zone!

Status: Kept it!

Fix #5: Eliot Asymmetrical Knit Cardigan by Katherine Barclay

My Thoughts: This was a very heavy sweatshirt-like cardigan. It had different zippers on it so it could be worn several ways. But strangely, this was the most expensive item of them all ($140.00!) I felt the price totally didn't match this product. It was comfortable but too heavy and way too expensive for me to consider buying. I would never pay that much for a sweatshirt cardigan!

Status: Sent back.

All in all, I was really happy with what Stitch Fix sent me this time. I would have kept all 5 items if I could have afforded to buy them all. I am super happy with the 2 items I kept. I will see what they send me next month. It is SO fun to get surprise stuff mailed to you!

Readers, have you tried Stitch Fix? What do you think of these items?

Tacky Christmas Sweaters!!!

There's nothing that I love more than a holiday party.. especially one with a theme!! One of my friends would have a tacky Christmas party here every year since high school. It was always so fun picking out the ridiculous outfits.. but it was SO tough to find a tacky Christmas sweater last minute!

I would have to find one in the kids section at Dillard's.. because the real adult (tacky) Christmas sweaters would cost at least $50.00!! Not-so-friendly for someone on a college or just-out-of-college budget!!

Well I wrote a post back in September about one of my favorite companies, Rent The Runway. You can read about it here-- its a website where you can rent designer dresses, jewelry, furs, shoes etc. for events. I have had the best experiences with them!

Anyways, they have a new section now where you can rent Ugly Holiday Sweaters for parties!!! Yes, really.  This way, you won't have to scramble last minute trying to find one! Here are some of your choices - and you can rent any of them for $15.00 here:

Hilarious! My favorite one is the cat sweater ;) Readers, what do you think of these Tacky Christmas sweaters?
