High-Waisted No.

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about the new skimpy swimsuit trend that I don't understand. Another trend that I don’t really understand right now is high-wasted shorts/jeans. I keep seeing high-waisted stuff in the stores.

Many fashion blogs and retail stores say that high-waisted things are flattering on any body type, but I beg to differ. When I see people wearing high-waisted shorts or jeans out (and most of the time these girls look like they are a size 0), I feel kind of bad for them because it just looks awful to me.

High-waisted shorts kind of remind me of a diaper.. and the jeans or pants also cut the torso off making even the skinniest girl look short and stubby. One thing that I have learned over the years- and I wish someone had told me when I was in high school- is just because something is in style right now and is fashionable- it does NOT mean you should wear it! It does not mean that it will necessarily look good on you and your body type! Just skip buying it if it doesn’t look awesome on you and get something else, or save your money and wait until a new trend comes out.

Here is a photo of Miley Cyrus wearing high-waisted shorts (below). She has a great body and is super fit and skinny, but these shorts are not flattering on her. In my opinion, she would look 100% better in normal non-high-waisted shorts.

The only person I have seen that looks good in high-waisted shorts or pants is Taylor Swift (below):

This is because she is about six-feet-tall and is model thin. When I saw her performing in the Victoria Secret  fashion show, she was taller and skinnier (and looked better) than most of the Victoria Secret models! So really.. she would probably look good in anything she wears (lucky her!).

High-waisted jeans remind me of  stereotypical “mom jeans”. I really don’t think they look flattering. Who could forget this "horrible" outfit that Jessica Simpson wore  a couple years ago? It was all over the magazines and TV and everyone was saying she looked fat (below):

If Jessica Simpson wore this outfit now though, people would probably say she looked trendy and in-style!

There is one exception... if you really do have vintage jeans that you wore in the 70s, 80s, or 90s then that is a different story- it is really cool to wear vintage clothing! But if you consider yourself a "young person", and don’t look like Taylor Swift or a super-tall high-fashion model, I would suggest avoiding this trend all together until it goes away!
Readers, what do you think about the high-waisted trend?

Twinsies!

Has anyone ever noticed the similarity between these two artists?

People keep mentioning to me how they thought it was Gwen Stefani singing Iggy's song "Fancy", or how much they look alike. Well, I am a fan of both of them. I love Iggy Azalea's new CD and I'm excited Gwen will be a new host on The Voice - maybe I will actually watch it now (haha!) I also have been listening to both of their Pandora stations lately.. both are good cruising-in-your-car stations. Iggy is Australian/ Irish heritage and I'm not sure what heritage Gwen is. Anyways... love them!!! ;)
Readers, do you see a similarity here?

Bachelorette

I have been a fan of the Bachelor and Bachelorette shows for years now (such a guilty pleasure of mine!) and I have loved this season. Andi Dorfman to me has seemed like the most relatable to me of any of the Bachelorettes- she is from the South (Atlanta!), she went to an SEC school (LSU!) and she works in the legal field as an attorney! She has also seemed the most real because she would break the show's rules by sending the men home early if she wasn't into them. I think that showed a lot of respect for the guys because she wasn't wasting their time!

Last night was the season finale and I stayed up until midnight watching the finale, After The Final Rose.... and then Real Housewives of OC.. (couldn't miss that either). Last night Andi had to choose between Josh, an ex-pro baseball player, and Nick, an emo-type preppy guy (who I couldn't see the appeal in to begin with- he seemed creepy to me from the start).

Unfortunately this season I had cheated and looked at Reality Steve to read a spoiler of who would win- and it said Josh was who she chose. So I wasn't that surprised when she picked Josh- especially after she showed so much excitement during her last date with Josh, and lack-luster politeness during her last date with Nick.

Andi ended up breaking the show's rules again and showed up in Nick's hotel room and sent him home before the final rose ceremony- so then it was very obvious who she was going to pick. I had thought that Josh seemed fake in the things he would say and do during this season, but in the end his speech to her was so adorable. When Andi told him she was choosing him I got emotional! And then during the Final Rose after show they looked so incredibly happy together! It is very funny to me  that they are both from Atlanta, live 5 mintutes away from eachother and still had to meet through the Bachelor TV show! Sounds like fate to me. Hopefully this couple will work out like a few of the other TV couples have. I am rooting for them! They are such a cute couple and he really looks like he makes her happy.

Also, my intuition about Nick's creepy factor was correct. The After The Final Rose episode showed his persistent attempts to discuss with Andy what happened and ask her questons about what went wrong, even though she is engaged and should be left alone. Andi kept avoiding him and the notes he would write her- until the show made her face him live on tv. He was acting very crazy and just can't let go! It is a dating TV show so he shouldn't have been so blind sighted and should stop throwing temper tantrums. Readers, do you watch the Bachelor or Bachelorette? What do you think of the shows- or last night's finale?

Panama City Beach

Hey guys I am back from vacation! I was gone a week but truthfully it feels like I was gone a month! Its a little tough getting back into the swing of things at work today but it was such a great time. Panama City is such a cool place! If you are ever thinking about planning a trip to PCB, here are some fabulous places to eat! I am such a foodie so it was really fun investigating all the local restaurants around town.
If you are looking for a restaurant with a beach side view, be sure to check out Schooners. It is located right on the water and people were even playing beach volleyball and building sand castles outside our window!

This was the view outside our window (above). We were really lucky to be seated right next to the windows without much of a wait (we didn't even make reservations!) The food is incredible. Be sure to order their tuna dip- I've never had anything like that in my life and I couldn't stop eating it! We both ordered fried seafood, and I got their "beach party" which is their famous seafood platter ($32.00 but SO worth it).

Another restaurant you must visit is Captain Jack's Seafood Buffet. The name might not sound that special, but it is known all over PCB as the best place for all-you-can-eat CRAB LEGS! And other seafood as well. It is $32.95 for each adult, and not only does it have an endless supply of crab legs, but all he rest of their seafood is insanely delicious as well. I got two huge plates of shrimp cocktail and fried seafood (I always look like a fat kid at buffets- I can't help myself!) and Adam had 3 plates of crab legs.  I've never even seen crab legs like those before and they tasted so delicious!! The buffet included grouper, fried shrimp, clams, southern cooking, fried scallops, stuffed crab, hushpuppies etc. My heaven!

Unlimited crab legs at the buffet.

Last but not least is Firefly, which is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to (be sure to make reservations!). Since we were on the ocean I was dying to try some sushi so I found Firefly online. It is a casual fine dining restaurant, so one side is a steak house (with an optional sushi menu) and the other side is more of a trendy sushi bar. The atmosphere there is gorgeous.. set up kind of like a European restaurant. The tables are pretty with granite counter tops. This restaurant was so amazing that we returned two nights in a row (the last 2 nights of our vacay.. Adam was saying he is glad we didnt try the restaurant earlier because he would have wanted to go every night!)
The first night we started off with the crab cake appetizer (fabulous) and he ordered a Filet that was amazing (below) and I ordered 2 sushi rolls. Their sushi menu is huge with about 20 rolls to choose from. One sushi roll would probably be enough to feed one person. That night I ordered the Roll Tide Roll and the Tiger Roll (shown below).

The second night we returned and ordered 2 sushi rolls each. They included the Tiger Roll, the Red Dragon Roll, the Three Crab Roll, and one other fried roll (shown below). They all were delicious and had a huge amount of fish- the rolls were about $12.00 each, and you can't find sushi rolls with that much fish in Nashville- they would probably cost $30.00 in Nashville since we are further from the beach. Best sushi I have ever had in my life (and I am such a sushi snob!)

Best of all was our appetizer that night. It was the Crab and Tuna Tower- a pile of crab and sushi tuna on a bed of rice (shown below). I've never seen or tried anything like it and it was probably the best sushi dish I have ever had!

All in all, it was such an unforgettable trip. Readers, have you ever been to PCB? What are some great restaurants there that you've tried?

BEACH TIME!

It is hard to focus on work today because tonight I am leaving for my favorite state in the U.S.A... FLORIDA!!! Thank you to my sister for house sitting and taking care of my kitties for a whole week! Also thank you to my Aunt for letting me stay at the family condo!!!

This is my first return to Florida since 2006 (when me and my best friend Jamie drove all the way to Key West from college in Mississippi).  I love being a tourist and doing anything and everything the city has to offer!! Florida is really the only state I would ever consider moving to- I love everything about it! I will try to post while I'm at the beach!!
Readers, have you been to PCB? Where are your favorite places to go there?

Yay White Jeans! Boo Skinny Jeans.

Good morning readers! I am going to Florida in a few days so I have been on a hunt for beach clothes! I have been looking for white jeans for a few months since my old ones were kind of cheap and ended up shrinking in the dryer. It is unfortunate that you now can’t find boot cut jeans anywhere- even in the specialty jeans stores (unless you order them online)! This is an issue for both women and men!!! Basically all that is available are skinny jeans, and I refuse to wear skinny jeans unless I am wearing boots with them. I don’t really understand the skinny jeans trend because to me they just look kind of awkward and uncomfortable in the summertime- especially in white! I was very happy when I went into the 7 for All Mankind store in the mall and tried on a pair of Kimmie Straight Leg jeans in clean white. They are straight leg but not too tight on your legs, and best of all, they are not see through! I keep noticing that white shorts and jeans are totally see through when I try them on- even in high end stores.

Anyways, here are the jeans- they were ON SALE from $169 to $100! They are high quality so they won’t shrink in the wash and they are stretchy and comfortable. I wanted to post a link to where you can find them, but they are no longer on the 7 for All Mankind website and the deparment store links do not have them on sale. Go check them out in the 7 store if you want a good deal on quality white jeans! Can’t wait to wear them at the beach.. and around everywhere until Labor Day ;)

RG

Sandal Time!

One thing I really got into this spring and summer is sandals. I was so excited when I realized I could wear sandals to work. They actually are way more comfortable than flip flops! One website I found is Prima Donna for affordable sandals.

These are Prima Donna Milkshake Sandals in natural (above). I have been wearing them all the time and they are only $22.99 and go with anything!

These (above) are similar to another pair that I ordered from Prima Donna a couple months ago. They are black and also go great with sandals, skirts, dresses or pants. These, the Rivera Cutout Sandals in black, are marked down from $22.99 to $14.90.

Here is a pair of gladiator sandals that I have been eyeing all year but they are too far out of my price range. They are from Stuart Weitzman (above) and are marked down from $398.00 to $239.00. I have seen them on many fashion blogs and they look great with dresses or shorts. But good news! I found another very similar pair- that are way more affordable- they're also from Prima Donna:
These are only $26.99 and look very similar! They are the Jahna Knee High Gladiator Sandals.

Readers, what are your favorite sandals? Do you like the gladiator look as much as I do?

No Shirt, No Problem!

Yes- these are all the same shirt but in different colors from my closet! This shirt, the Convertible Sleeve Portofino shirt is one of my favorite shirts ever! It is from Express and they have it in- get this- 22 colors!! So there is no way you wont find a color you like. I love getting clothes that I can wear to anywhere- it can be dressed up or down, and can be casual or professional. Sometimes I wear these shirts to work at the law firm with black or white pants. My sister has a couple of these shirts too and she wears them when she is teaching high school students. They are affordable - $49.90, but they are buy one, get one for $29.90. Their website also has a deal right now- $30.00 off $100.00 or $75.00 off of $200 if you enter the code 9331.

Here is a picture of the shirts up close. I get lots of complements from friends or strangers when I wear these (I wear them out to lunch/dinner, to junior league meetings, or for a night out in Nashville). They are SO comfy. I also don't have to dry clean them because I wash them with cold water and hang them up to dry! What a steal.

Express really was my favorite store in middle school and since them I had kind of stayed away from the store unless I was looking for business attire. I'm really happy this store has made a turn around.. I stop in whenever I make it over to the mall.

Readers, what do you think of these shirts? Are there any other dressy shirts that you suggest? Happy Sunday!

Monogram Me!

I have a weakness for monogrammed gifts. Whoever came up with the idea was a genius! I even have my sheets and pillowcases monogrammed! Below are some ideas for fantastic monogrammed gifts.

Above is my monogrammed necklace. It can be worn with dressy or casual clothes. I gave one to my sister for her birthday last year! Prices seem to be going up for these, but you can find this and many other monogrammed name necklaces here!

Above is my favorite monogrammed coaster. These make awesome gifts because they are glass, and have rubber stands at the bottom so they dont move! My cats jump on my tables sometimes and these never budge or get knocked off. It is from Preppy Monogrammed Gifts- which is one of my favorite gift sites. They monogram almost anything and it is all such high quality- you can check out their site here!

For a long time I have been on a search for the perfect monogrammed bath robe. Pottery Barn has a fabulous monogramming  department and it is where I got my sheets and pillow cases from. They have the robe (above) for both men and women. This robe, the "Luxe Cozy Robe", comes in 3 colors: dark porcelain blue, gray and ivory. There were probably 20 monogramming fonts to choose from. It is $89.00 with free shipping- and you can get an extra 10% off if you join their email list. There are other robes to choose from on their site and you can find them here!
All you Nashville locals, don't forget about Harpeth Gallery. Growing up, my grandmother was the store owner and I spent so much time around their fine gifts looking at all the cool stuff! It is still my favorite place to shop for my friends' wedding registries- and they have an excellent monogramming department too- stop by and check it out!
Readers, what are your favorite monogrammed gifts and stores? I would love to check them out!

Stamp of Approval

Happy Wednesday! I am feeling a little jetlagged from the 3-day 4th of July weekend! I feel like I'm in need of an IV drip of coffee in my system! But anyways, nothing like a little bit of writing to wake me up!
I absolutely love getting snail mail. Especially pretty looking mail! When its that time again to send thank you notes out, one thing that I found super convenient is an address stamp!
The stamp that I have been using ever since I moved into my new place is from Fawnsberg (above)- it is their "bright stamp". When you are sending multiple letters and notes out at once, it is so much easier to stamp than to hand write your return address. This is much cuter than using the type of address stickers we use at work.

Here is the address stamp and ink pad that I use (above). The bright stamp costs $65.00, which is a great investment if you are living at a permanent address. You can choose ink pads of many different colors- they're $5.00 each. I chose red since it is my favorite color. There are many other address stamps to choose from, and you can buy them here! Also, my monogrammed stationery is a favorite of mine (above)- it is from Paper Style and it is a steal- $41.95 for 50 fancy monogrammed notes and envelopes. I bought them over a year ago and I still haven't used them all!
Readers, what kind of stationery do you use? Do you like getting snail mail as much as me?

Summertime Sadness

I've got that summertime sadness.. because I left my favorite swimsuit in a hotel room in Atlanta.. and its gone for good! It looks like someone in the hotel cleaning crew may be wearing my favorite BCBG bikini that I've had since 2009! But I guess it was about time for me to get a new one. Recently I started a hunt for a new swimsuit that I loved just as much. Soon I realized that this is definitely the wrong year to be bikini shopping (atleast for me!)-- it appears the new trend everywhere seems to be extremely skimpy bikinis- where the bottoms are pretty much thongs, or there is careful stitching on the derrier to make it almost look like a wedgie! I looked everywhere in the mall and was very disappointed in this new look. Those bikinis may look good on those surfer models, but I am not, and never have been confident enough to show my behind to everyone at the pool. And I also don't want to see my friend's rear either- especially if we are all stuck together on a boat or something. If you ask me, this trend will fade fast. Hopefully! After being exhausted from the search of trying to find a normal coverage bikini at the mall, I found 3 bikinis online that I will be wearing at my pool this summer.
This is my favorite one and it is from BCBG. BCBG has never let me down when it comes to swimwear (or anything else!) I looked for it in their store in Green Hills mall but they were out, so I had to order it online. Luckily it fit perfect and it is NOT skimpy. It has braded tassels on the bottom and top- so its sorta boho chic! AND you are in luck- it is currently on sale from $170.00 to $85.00!! You can find it here.

Next is one of my guilty pleasures- Old Navy! It is one of those stores that takes a lot of looking, but when when you find something you like it is such a steal and you wear it forever! I found this bikini online and it is snake skin (like the bikini I lost- R.I.P!) Luckily it has normal coverage so I wont be feeling too showy at the pool. Like everything at Old Navy, it is affordable, only $33.88! You can find it here.

Last but not least is a bikini I found on sale at V I X Swimwear. VIX can be found at Nordstrom and other swimwear stores around town. When I was in the mall everywhere was completely out of my size (M), so I went to the actual brand website and found a ton of bikinis way marked down on sale! This one was marked down from $196.00 to $137.20. Unfortunately, the bottoms were too skimpy for me so I had to return them. You can find more V I X bikinis on sale here.

Readers, are there any other places to find swimwear? What do you think of this new trend?

9 Products I Can't Live Without!

Above are 9 products that I can't live without. I apologize for the dramatic title but I always worry if I think I've lost my luggage or purse that these will be missing! They will make your life so much easier and don't worry- they wont burn a hole in your pocket:
1) Paula Dorf Eyeliner (in very black): I rarely leave the house without eyeliner on. Even if I am having an especially sleepy commute into work. I have tried so many and this one tops them all- it never budges all day and has tons of vitamin e! It also isn't hard to remove at the end of the day.

2) Too Faced Shadow Insurance: This makes your eyeshadow work and wear 10 times better! I have tried other types from different brands but this one is the easiest to blend in and use.

3) Stila Tinted Moisturizer (in tone): A tinted moisturizer is a must-have for me. I turn red easily when I drink or get nervous, and have also developed sensitive skin/ allergies over the years (lucky me!)  and tinted moisturizer gets rid of the pink tone and blends in all the tones of my face. It makes it all look air brushed and flawless! This brand is my favorite because it gives kind of a shimmery look- but not like bronzer. It also has lots of sun screen to protect your skin from the evil sun! Note- I know the new trend is bb and cc cream- but I have tried types of those, and there is too much concealer in it for my sensitive skin. It feels too makeup-y!

4) Maybelline The Falsies Volume Express (in blackest black): I am a mascara junkie- I am very picky about my mascara! I am blessed with blonde eyelashes so I always feel like I need to over compensate with layers of dark mascara when I'm out. You wont go wrong with this one! It doesn't run or flake and it is easy to remove.

5) Sephora Color Anthology: This is a Christmas gift gold mine! It contains 70 different eyeshadows of the Sephora brand so you can mix and match. It has a mirror attached inside and is great for traveling! My mom used to give us one as a Christmas gift each year, and since then it now goes on sale from around $100 to $30 around Christmas time! It will last you all year, and since there are 70 colors, here is a combination for anyone.

6) Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo: I was very weary about trying dry shampoo for the first time.. I can be hesitant to try new things. But it was a fabulous one to start with. It smells great, is easy to use and builds volume. But best of all, it looks like you just washed your hair! I loathe blowdrying my hair, and anything that takes that out of the equation if I have to go somewhere is a God send!

7) Aussie 3 Minute Miracle: I have very long thick hair and I always have. I have to use strong conditioners or my hair will be tangle city. This is a conditioner I have been using since college. I even got some of my roommates back then addicted, and they are still using it! It smells like coconuts and is fine for every day use! I take it with me everywhere because it can't be beat - even by the more expensive products.

8) Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask: This is a conditioner I will use once a week. It will completely untangle and condition your hair and, of course, it smells awesome! It will make you feel like you just left the salon.

9) Neutrogena Clarifying Shampoo: After all those conditioners and dry shampoos, lets face it- there is going to be buildup in your hair whether you realize it or not. This is by far the best clarifying shampoo out there in my opinion, and critics agree! It makes your shampoo, dry shampoo, etc. work much better and sometimes it even gives my hair different texture right after I use it! I try to use this once a week or every two weeks, since some reviews I read said it could make your hair fall out. I'm not taking that chance!

Readers, what are some other products you cant live without? I would love to give them a try!

RG

My First Post!

Hello world! Today I decided to write a blog. This blog will be about fashion, beauty tips, decorating and life in general.
I love reading blogs. I love reality shows. I am ADD so this blog will probably be all over the place. I am a lot more boring now than I used to be but I love to write and I need to find an outlet for my creativity. Truthfully, I am in need of a hobby and hopefully I can find a way to make this blog as interesting for you as it is for me! :)
I was a journalism major and english minor at Ole Miss. I guess I grew up in the right generation- I love social media, texting and my smartphone. Probably because I love socializing but I’m truly an introvert at heart!

I am 29 and a Nashville native. After college I returned to my hometown because I love it so much! I am a paralegal at a law firm. This is where I spend the majority of my life but I can't write much about my job due to confidentiality.

Anyways, I'll try to post as much as I can so please check back often! Meanwhile I will be trying to figure out this layout. Its a lot harder than it looks! Thanks for reading!
