629 Is The New 615

Well guys, Nashville has officially gotten too big for its britches. Our city is running out of 615 phone numbers to give out, so the area code 629 is being added

I used to be really excited about Nashville becoming such an "it city". But in the last year, it's starting to feel like more of an inconvenience. More traffic. Longer lines. Higher rent... now more complicated phone numbers

Recently, I have been getting this notification on my cellphone:

So yes.. it looks like it's really happening. You have 2 days left before the change! Here is some information about the new 615 / 629 area code overlay:

An overlay is the addition of another area code to the same geographic area as an existing area code. You won't have to change your existing area code or phone number, but it does require you to dial the area code and the 7-digit number for all calls. Anyone who has a phone number with a 615 area code is affected, as well as anyone that receives a phone number from the 629 area code in the future.

The 615 area code covers the north-central portion of the state of Tennessee serving communities such as:

-   Franklin
-   Gallatin
-   Hendersonville
-   Lebanon
-   Murfreesboro
-   Nashville
-   Springfield

The 629 area code will cover the same geographic area as the 615 area code. These changes will begin on the following dates:

Beginning February 28, 2015, if you have a 615 area code, the new dialing procedure will be required for all calls. On or after this date, if you do not use the new dialing procedure, your call will not be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.

Beginning March 28, 2015, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the 629 area code. If you have a 629 area code, you must dial the area code + 7-digit phone number on all calls or the call will not be completed.

This is important: You will need to reprogram all services and devices that utilize a 7-digit phone number to include the area code, including automatic dialing equipment. Some examples include:

-   Life safety systems
-   Fire or burglar alarm and security systems
-   Security gates (I live in a gated community so this will be really annoying to update)
-   Speed dialers
-   Call forwarding settings
-   Fax machines
-   Internet dial-up numbers
-   Voice mail services and other functions

You can find more information, including an FAQ here on the Verizon Website. For the next 2 days in my free time I will be adding (615) into my 300- person contact list.. this will be fun! You've been warned. Good luck with this, Nashvegas readers!

Awkward...

Did anyone else catch this painfully awkward red carpet interview with Dakota Johnson and her famous mother, Melanie Griffith? It's bad.... really bad........

If miss Dakota Johnson will throw a hissy fit on live television.... especially the Oscars red carpet... then how badly does she act off camera? Food for thought.....

Oscars 2015

This year was one of the best Oscars I've seen! The performances were fab, the speeches weren't too depressing or long and all the nominees seemed genuinely excited to be nominated or to win! It also made me happy that most of the winners had never won an Oscar before!

Above are my favorite looks from the Oscars. Chrissy Teigen (whose husband, John Legend, won an Oscar that night!) had my favorite look- her hair, dress, shoes, makeup- it all was perfect! Reese looked lovely and looked so happy! Emma Stone also looked absolutely amazing- her dress.. her shoes, makeup and hair were so gorgeous! That color dress looked so perfect with her red hair!

My favorite part of the Oscars was Lady Gaga's Sound of Music Tribute for Julie Andrews. I hate to sound cheesy but Lady Gaga sounded like she had a voice of an angel during that song! Lady Gaga also has a background in theater so I bet she was so excited to perform the songs for Julie Andrews. You can watch her performance below:

Although he hasn't gotten great reviews for his hosting of the Oscars this year, I thought Neil Patrick Harris did an awesome job! I liked his opening musical act and I thought it was funny when he came out in his underwear at one point. Here are a few of his zingers from last night:

Also, I have had that Lego Movie 'Everything Is Awesome' song stuck in my head ever since I saw that performance! It is pretty silly performance but you can watch the it below:

I am so glad I didn't miss the Oscars this year! What did you guys think?

Ice Storm: Day 5

Good morning from day 5 of the Tennessee ice storm!!! Above is a photo of my lovely walk into my work building. I can't wait for a giant icicle to fall on my head and impale me :)

I am really reallyyyy over this storm! The sidewalks are solid ice in downtown Nashville.. a complete accident waiting to happen. Literally. Solid ice sidewalks! Everywhere! Our parking garage has ice on the ramps as well. We are supposed to get 2 more inches of snow and ice today so we will be leaving work early today. I can't say TGIF enough times! By now I have grown completely used to temps in the single digits and I have almost forgotten what its like to leave my house without extreme caution of wrecking my car or falling down!

I hope all of you drive SAFELY today! Keep in mind that tomorrow Tennesseans are supposed to have temps above freezing! So this ice will melt. My coworker told me today that since there is so much ice, once it melts with rain we are supposed to have FLOODING. I told him that I would much rather have flooding than this! Sunshine is right around the corner! Be safe everyone and have a fabulous weekend!

New York Fashion Week!

This week has been New York Fashion Week!!! Here are some of my favorite highlights from this week's fashion shows:

Here is my favorite look out of all of the runway shows (above)- my favorite model, Gigi Hadid, in Anna Sui! How fabulous is this look? It's ombre, boho chic and high fashion all in one! AH-MAZ-ING!!!!!!!

Also, Tommy Hilfiger had his 30th anniversary show this week. It was wild because it was a football theme and the runway was turned into a football field!!! I bet the models were pumped to be a part of this:

My fav models, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn in the Tommy Hilfiger Show

How cool is that??? I absolutely LOVE the football theme! Looks like that show was totally epic. Anyways here are more of my favorite looks from NYFW:

Looks from the Cushnie et Ochs Show

the Cushnie et Ochs Show

Looks from Rachel Zoe's twiggy inspired show

Looks from the Naeem Khan Show

Looks from the Marchesa Show (Great Gatsby Themed!)

Love all of these looks! It looks like the future for fashion will be geared more towards traditional than trendy, and I am so happy about that! If you would like to watch the rest of the fashion shows today you can watch it live here! Let me know what you think of the looks this year!

Ice Storm 2015

I am writing today from day 2 of the ice storm in Nashville! I am starting to get pretty stir crazy from spending so much time trapped at home. It took me 45 minutes to scrape (most of) the ice off my car yesterday and there have been about 1-3 inches of ice on the roads! The law firm has been closed today and yesterday due to the dangerous conditions (which never happens) and no word if I will be at work tomorrow either! Since it is suddenly supposed to be -10 degrees tomorrow and it will be below freezing all week, I doubt metro Nashville public schools will return until Monday!

View out my window on day 2 of the storm- the kitties and I are getting cabin fever trapped in here!

This storm has been a lot worse than anyone was expecting! I really freak out about snow and ice because Nashville isn't very good about salting or plowing the roads- and combined with our hills it is very scary for us! Luckily there is a Target within walking distance for me so I braved the snow yesterday to get groceries so I won't starve haha!

I hope all my fellow Tennesseans are staying safe today and are staying off the roads! And remember.. don't risk crashing your car just to get to work. If you are iced in, work can wait! Safety first, everybody! Be safe!!

Swimville: Sports Illustrated Supermodels Take Over Nashville

Happy Friday everyone! This has been an interesting week here in Nashville. On Tuesday there was an anthrax type package sent to the Supreme Court building next to our office (bomb squads showed up). Then, on Wednesday there was a bank robbery incident in our office building (that was scary!) but most exciting of all, this week supermodels from Sports Illustrated took over Music City!!!!

When I first heard about Swimville, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit festival, I had assumed it was a trashy magazine signing party. I pictured it was a playboy meet-and-greet type thing with just a few of the models.. but wow was I wrong. Let me explain why I feel really dumb now for not going... ALL of the models were here and did meet and greets downtown on Broadway. Broadway was shut down for two days for the festival!

Artist Herb Williams made a painting of this year's Sports Illustrated cover (above)- it was created from thousands of crayons- it will be later auctioned to the highest bidder!

Here is artist, Herb Williams, with the cover model Hannah Davis (image via instagram)

On Wednesday, a huge concert was at the Symphony Center with the super models- Kings of Leon performed and so did Moon Taxi (both bands are from Nashville!):

My boyfriend was actually on live radio on Wednesday for a contest to win tickets to the concert-- he came in 3rd place so we almost got to go!!!!! But anyways, some of my friends WERE able to go to the concert and they got pictures with Lily Aldridge, Gigi Hadid, etc and got to see tons of celebrities (above)!! Then they got to see Kings of Leon play at the Symphony Center (I've been there many times for debutante events, Ballet Ball, etc).. that show must have been amazing!

Gigi Hadid with other models at the Symphony Center (image via instagram)

Of all the models, Gigi Hadid is my favorite and I wish I could have met her! I first saw her on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (she is Yolanda Foster's daughter) and she is so adorable and talented! She is becoming really reallllyyy successful in her first 2 years of modeling! Here is a photo of her with some of her fans:

(How pretty is she?????? Image via instagram #Swimville)

There were more signings and meet-and-greets on Thursday, and then there was another party with the super models at one of my very favorite bars- Acme Feed and Seed! Acme is sooo much fun!!!! The party was actually FREE and they had meet-and-greets with all of the models last night! Some of my friends went to this event as well and got pictures with John Legend, Chrissy Teigen, Emily Ratajkowski, etc!!!! (HOW DID I MISS THIS???!!?)

Emily Ratajkowski and other models at Acme Feed & Seed (you probably recognize Ms. Ratajkowski from Gone Girl and Robin Thicke's infamous Blurred Lines video)

Needless to say, I am very veryyyyy jealous of everyone who went! I had no idea you could actually see/meet these models, much less get PICTURES with them!! Here are some photos I found from the Swimville week- all found on instagram, #Swimville:

 The models on Broadway!

I guess I am learning to not make assumptions about events! This event wasn't trashy at all and looked pretty epic-- I'm sorry I missed out! This is pretty great PR for Nashville! Thank you to the models for coming here and being so nice to the fans! I hope all of the SI Models had a very fun two days in Music City!!! Readers, did any of you make it to Swimville? What do you think about this festival?

Grammys 2015

Happy Monday! Did any of you catch the Grammy awards last night? Unfortunately I was not impressed this year with what I saw- there were way too many slow, depressing songs and I felt like today's top artists were singing me 18 lullabies trying to put me to sleep!

Let me start off with this- I loved ACDC's performance and ELO's performance with Ed Sheeran!

ACDC

ELO's Performance with Ed Sheeran

I also was impressed with Sam Smith's performance, as expected. (Does anyone else notice how much he looks like Boy George??

I loved the fact that he mentioned his Grammy winning song "Stay With Me" was written about the man who broke his heart last year. Success is the best kind of revenge:

....however, I am very glad that I have DVR because my boyfriend and I ended up fast forwarding through almost every performance! In almost every song I kept waiting for the lights to turn on, someone to jump out, or for special effects to happen- but nothing ever did!

Kanye sang a song in the dark with a flashlight (inspired by ghost stories, I guess)

Katy Perry must have been tired from her Super Bowl performance because her song and act were a complete snooze.

I love Gwen Stefani and Adam Levine, but the song they picked was way too low for Gwen's voice. I wish they had played an old No Doubt song together instead! Or a vintage Maroon 5 song just to wake the audience up!

Sia's "performance" featured actress Kristin Wiig (what?) dancing in what looked similar to an exorcism with another performer... it was really reallyyyyy painful to watch!

Ariana Grande sang a slowwwww Mariah Carey type song, I don't remember much about it except that we were ready to fast forward 1 minute into it.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett sang the song "Cheek to Cheek".. which was a nice performance I guess, but not fun or entertaining enough for the Grammys.

As if the awards show wasn't depressing enough, writer Brooke Axtell came out and gave a speech about domestic violence (above). This speech lasted way too long for an awards show. I think its great to raise awareness for such a terrible issue, but last night was not the time to hear her tell her long story about her boyfriend who beat her up.

After struggling to stay awake, and looking at our clocks wondering "when will this end?" Finally, the grand finale- Beyonce! But unfortunately, her act was a slow choir melody which made me feel like I was sitting in church. At the end of her song we were asking, "that's it?"

First the Superbowl Commercials were depressing and slow, and now the Grammy Awards! I'm not sure who decided to make the Grammys 17 slow, sad songs and 4 upbeat ones, but I hope next time this happens they warn us ahead of time!

I don't think people enjoy devoting 4 hours of their Sunday night to feeling depressed or sleepy.  Now I'm wishing I caught my regular Sunday night programs instead like Girls or Total Divas... haha!

Readers, what did you think of the Grammys this year?
