Fringey Fringe!!!

Hey everybody! First off- I want you all to read this crazy post I read yesterday that is spilling secrets from people who have worked in the fashion industry. Different anonymous people share some pretty shocking/ hysterical stories - be sure to read it here and let me know what you think!!! It definitely reminds me of The Devil Wears Prada and makes me glad I didn't try to make it in the fashion world. I've worked in restaurants, retail, lifeguarding, gyms, offices and law firms and no experiences I've had were as bad as those!

Anyways, today I wanted to post about Fringe!! I used to think the trend was kind of ridiculous for me, but just like almost any other fashion trend.. it is starting to grow on me. Since this trendy look may not be around forever, it is probably best not to spend the big bucks right now on fringe items. Here are some of my favorite fringe looks on the cheap, and none of these items are over $80.00. Click the pictures to shop for yourself!
I especially love the Steve Madden bag above- it also comes in black! Its such a perf little bag and looks just like the expensive versions. Let me know what you think of these items.. or if you've gotten any fringey looks for yourself lately!

The Bruce Jenner Interview

Did any of you get to see the highly anticipated interview with former Olympian Bruce Jenner? I saw it live on Friday night and it was definitely way more of a crazy interview than I had been expecting. WAY. MORE. CRAZY. At first I had been thinking that 2 hours would be too long for an interview about his personal "journey" topic, but it flew by and I kept wanting to know more! You can watch the whole 2-hour interview here if you missed it.

I kept tearing up at different parts of the interview. First of all, I always really liked him on the Kardashians show, and liked him as a person in general, before any of this. He really is showing bravery in facing his fears and coming out to the world to show he has wanted to be a woman his entire life!

I know that his bravery will help many transgender people realize that they're not alone, and if the manliest of a man-- a former OLYMPIC champion-- feels this way, then there are probably many others out there.

SPOILER ALERT: Do not read below if you are planning on watching the interview.

Some things about the interview that surprised me:

- How many people knew his secret about his gender issue. 2 of his ex-wives knew- because he told them during their marriage! This seemed to lead to the end of those marriages. Some of his children knew! Therapists knew... even his sister knew! So many people have kept his secret for so many years.

- He underwent hormone treatments in the 1980s. But then he got spooked and stopped his treatments. He then went on to marry Kris Jenner and have 2 other biological children.

- He would wear dresses and women's clothing as a very young child in secret. He would even wear his sister's clothing!

- He would dress as a woman in his adult life out in public. He said he was even approached by a man at the Opryland Hotel when he was dressed as a woman. (Opryland Hotel is here in Nashville.. so that was interesting!)

- After separating from Kris Jenner, he moved into his own home, which was shown on the Kardashians reality show. Us the viewers all thought he moved there because he was overwhelmed and wanted time to himself. But actually, he was starting hormone treatments again. AND he was throwing parties in that Malibu home- and dressing as a woman around all of his friends that came to his parties!

- His children caught him dressing like a woman long before he announced it to his family or the media. He said that Kim Kardashian caught him once in a dress years ago, and later confronted him about it. His daughters Kendall and Kylie had set up a camera to find anyone stealing their clothes- and they caught him wearing dresses on the hidden camera. Crazy!

- After the media found out about his surgery to remove his Adam's apple, Bruce thought his secret was out and that his life was over. He seriously considered committing suicide in his Malibu home. But then he thought to himself no... I want to see how this story ends! (I really teared up at this part.)

- I liked what Kanye West had to say when he found out about Bruce's future gender transformation. It makes me like Kanye a littttttle bit more as a person.. (I'm still mad at Kanye for being mean to Tay Swift at the Grammys though!)

It was nice to see his kids, especially Brody and Brandon, show how supportive they are of him becoming the person he calls "she". This all must be very hard for them.

Bruce Jenner has not announced what his new name will be, but he said "she" will be making an appearance outside closed doors soon! I'm sure this will be very freeing for him. He now can be the person he has always wanted to be. The transgender issue needs to be less of a taboo topic in society! I hope that people will follow Mr. Jenner's lead and decide to come out to the world and be themselves- male or female!

Readers- did you watch the interview? What did you think?

The journalist in me is super happy to be interviewed by our local newspaper, especially about one of my favorite topics! The article was written by the lovely Vicki Stout. Ms. Stout will also be taking photos for The Tennessean during Steeplechase, so be sure to look for her! There are some really great tips in the article from different Steeplechasers so be sure to check it out!  You can also read the rest of the article here!

The Mill Boutique: Grand Opening Event

Hey guys! I wanted to let you all know about a big grand opening this weekend! My friend Lauren Miller and her sister, Allie Abide, will be opening their very first boutique in The Nations area of Nashville! It is called The Mill boutique and they are having an opening party this Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. with cupcakes, mimosas, and the Retro Sno food truck. The party will continue into the night with hours d'oeurves, beer and wine starting at 5:00 p.m., with live music and a drawing for an exclusive gift basket! So be sure to check it out:

Lauren was a student at Ole Miss at the same time as me, but I really met Lauren when she married one of my close friends from high school and college, Alastair. Lauren has had her own online and instagram boutique, Glitter Mill, and I have ordered several items from her online store in the last year. Everything I have ordered from her is fantastic and so reasonably priced. Here are pics of their new store, The Mill:

Their new store (above) will be carrying items that range in price from $29- $90, which is MUCH more reasonably priced than other boutiques around town. I love this hot pink dress and necklaces they're carrying (below):

I am also excited about the location they picked for their store because I am also a homeowner in West Nashville (I can go on for hours about why West Nash is the best area of Nashville!!!!!!) and this is such fab news for our neighborhood! Lauren was nice enough to send me a press release so please read below for their story and all the details. Be sure to attend their grand opening party for the boutique this Saturday:

Here is their press release:

First Retail Store Opens in the Nations

On April 25th, The Mill will add commerce to the growing West Nashville neighborhood. On Saturday, April 25th, the fashionable sisters, Lauren Miller and Allie Abide, will open their clothing boutique, The Mill, in The Nations. As the Nations' first retail store, The Mill will be joining 51st Kitchen and Bar, Tin Wings and Flip Burger in bringing commerce to the burgeoning West Nashville neighborhood.

The sisters have gained online notoriety with their social medial driven e-commerce, Glitter Mill, and will be bringing their fashion-forward taste to West Nashville with their first storefront. Miller came across the newly vacant location at 814 51st Avenue North, just a few blocks away from their house barely three weeks ago. She decided to seize the opportunity with her sister Allie in order to make their dreams of opening a clothing store a reality, as well as participate in the economic development of her own neighborhood.

"The Nations has quickly become home to us," said Miller, who is also a homeowner in The Nations. "There are many exciting changes happening here and we have been looking forward to being able to further support the growth and expansion."

Miller and her husband first decided to invest in the neighborhood in 2011, when they bought their house. Since then, the property value of their home has increased over 40%. The addition of more commerce in their neighborhood has helped with its economic development, while continuing to increase property value.

"The Nations brings a great sense of community and culture to Nashville," added Miller. "There is a balanced mix of unique, as well as both older and newer establishments, which in some parts of town is hard to find."

The Mill not only helps to bring more money and culture to the neighborhood, but they also add style. The boutique features a mix of everyday basics with patterned boho styles for less than $100. The Southern girls from New Orleans bring a little NOLA flair to the cozy shopping environment, so it's like shopping in your best friends closet, without having to return the goodies later.

Please, join Lauren and Allie on Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. for mimosas, cupcakes and shopping at The Mill's grand opening. The party will continue into the evening with hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine and live music starting at 5:00 p.m., and a drawing for an exclusive gift basket that includes a gift card and hand picked items from the new boutique. Follow the Mill on Instagram (@shopglittermill) for updates on grand opening discounts and giveaways.

About The Mill: Located in The Nations in West Nashville, The Mill is the first storefront for sisters Lauren Miller and Allie Abide of fashion e-commerce, Glitter Mill. The women's clothing boutique features unique pieces, including shoes and accessories for the fashion forward Southern woman. The Mill's price points range from $29.00- $90.00, and they offer an eclectic mix of boho, patterned pieces, as well as everyday basics.

Lillypalooza

(image via instagram @typiclee)

Back in January I told you about Target's big announcement about their Lilly for Target collection. It features 15 exclusive prints and is a 250-piece collection. If you aren't familiar with Lilly Pulitzer- Lilly dresses typically sell for $300- $350.00, and Target's limited edition line is selling the dresses for $35.00. As announced, the collection hit stores yesterday on April 19, and if you missed out yesterday, I hate to inform you that you are very much out of luck! Target launched their online collection yesterday at 6:00 a.m., and it was entirely sold out online by 8:00 a.m.

Many Lilly fans showed up at Target stores across the country as early as 5:00 a.m., and it is reported that their collection sold out in stores within 5 minutes of the stores opening:

 (image via instagram #LillyForTarget)

Target does not plan to restock any of their sold out products since the collection is limited-edition and available only while supplies last. In this case, supplies only lasted a few hours. Your best bet is checking your local Target store today and in the future- keep in mind that customers have 14 days to return items that don't fit, so it is worth checking back to see if any products have come back as returns.

 (image via instagram #LillyForTarget)

Dresses, handbags, beach towels, etc. quickly showed up on ebay yesterday (there are currently 28,141 items listed) with marked up prices. Dresses which were sold by Target originally cost $35.00, but are being auctioned online for around $65.00 or more.. even the beach towels are listed for around $45.00, and that's just today's prices! There is currently a boycott campaign underway:

This is not the first time that a limited-edition designer Target line has caused pandemonium. Four years ago, Target had a signature product line featuring the Italian luxury knitwear designer, Missoni. Target's website crashed repeatedly and in-store shoppers were greeted with long lines and empty racks.

I am pretty irritated about all of this! I was really hoping to order a Target for Lilly dress, beach towel or glass wear! Target publicized and advertized this line excessively for months, so they should have supplied a reasonable amount of merchandise!  The items are still listed on Target's website but once you scroll down to add an item to your cart it will show "item currently out of stock". What a buzz kill!

Readers, let me know what you think about all of this and if you were lucky enough to order any of the Lilly for Target items!

Dre$$es On the Cheap!

HAPPY FRIDAY! TGIF! I can't put into words how pumped I am that Friday is finally here. These last couple weeks at work have been a doozy for me and I am so ready for some R&R!!

I am hoping the sun will make an appearance at some point this weekend! It has rained almost every day here in Nashville, but we all should still keep in mind that summer is almost here! ...and when warm weather does happen, I am so excited to wear these dresses that I ordered yesterday:

These maxi dresses I ordered are all from Forever 21 -- not only have they gotten fab reviews, they are a steal! As you can see, I ordered one of the dresses (above)  in two colors-- I couldn't resist since it is marked down to only $15.00! The grey one is only $12.90!!! If you want to order them for yourself, click their pictures below:
Forever 21 may not be considered "mature" enough for someone my age, but this store will always hold a special place in my heart! I remember in high school I was at boarding school, and I went to Houston to stay with my best friend Kristin's family for spring break. I had never heard of Forever 21 since we didn't have one yet in Nashville (the shopping here back then was lousy) so she took me to the 4-story Forever 21 store at the Galleria mall there and I was blownnnn away! I was amazed by how cute and affordable everything was.

Even though that was over 10 years ago, I still remember the skirts and tops I purchased. I stocked up there during my trip, and have been a fan ever since. Right now, they have a huge midi and maxi dress selection to choose from so be sure to check them out here!

Have a fab weekend, readers!!!

Tax Day 2015

Hey it's Tax Day! I think we can all agree that this is not the most pleasant of days. I am very relieved that I planned way in advance this year because scrambling to file your taxes last minute is a headache! Anyways, in the spirit of today's theme, here are some facts about taxes in the USA this year:

- The average tax refund this year is $3,120.00. In all, over $325 billion in tax refunds are paid out.

- If you want to be in the top 1% of earners nationally, you'll need $434,682 of annual income to join that group. You need to be earning $116,555 annually to be in the top 10% of income earners.

- 28 minutes is the average wait time when calling the IRS (compared to 11 minutes in 2010).

- 52 minutes is the average wait time on the IRS "priority" hotline- this is what tax preparers call for help with clients.

- California has the most millionaires. More than 40,000 Californians reported over $1 million in income. Vermont has the least- less than 300 millionaires.

- 80% of returns are expected to be filed electronically this year.

- About 57% of tax returns are done by paid preparers.

- The federal tax code is 2,652 pages long- and the rules are constantly changing. The complexity of the tax code drains billions of the U.S. economy in lost time and resources- on average, 6.1 billion hours are spent preparing annual tax returns.

- 6 million households are expected to pay the Obamacare penalty this year for not obtaining health insurance.

 - Around 80% of the U.S. tax filers get a federal tax refund.

 - 16 hours: the time average that the 2014 taxpayers spent completing and filing their 1040.

Note to readers: if you are self-employed, etc. and don't feel the need to pay your taxes- beware! Not only could you face harsh penalties, but I work in the legal profession and tax records are requested very often in lawsuits. Many lawsuits are dropped because people don't want to turn over their tax returns. When you are purchasing a home, mortgage companies ask for all your tax records too! So avoid being that person who is looking over their shoulder for auditors- just do the right thing! Don't be like Lindsay Lohan and have Charlie Sheen bail you out at tax time ;)

Facts You Didn't Know About Jordan Spieth

It was a big day yesterday at the Masters Tournament- 21-year-old Jordan Spieth earned a huge victory tying the tournament record at 18 under par and becoming the second youngest winner in history, right after Tiger Woods:

 (source)

Despite solid performances from Justin Rose and Phil Mickelson, no one came within three strokes of Spieth. Pretty impressive! But who is this youngster? Here are some facts that you didn't know about Jordan Spieth:

- He was born on July 27, 1993 in Dallas, Texas.

- Height: 6 foot 1 (I thought he looked like a shortie on tv, guess I was wrong!)

- He credits much of his success to his sister, Ellie. He calls her his good luck charm. The 14-year old has a neurological disorder that puts her in the autism category:

 (image via instagram: @jordanspieth)

She inspired him to set up the Jordan Spieth Charitable Foundation, which raises money for young people with special needs, military families and the junior golf fund.

-He always buys and gives Ellie a key chain as a souvenir from the places he visits.

- Spieth's girlfriend, Annie Verrett, is his highschool sweetheart. She recently graduated from Texas Tech:

(images via instagram: @jordanspieth)

- His caddy, Michael Greller, used to be a full-time math teacher. He ditched the mathematics for golf clubs after offering to caddy for an amateur for free. He was then put in touch with Spieth who was looking for a caddy in an amateur competition, and they quickly hit it off.

- After his victory at the Masters, his celebration meal was at Chick-fil-A, and they opened on a Sunday just for him!

- None of Spieth's family plays golf. His father played college baseball while his mother played basketball. He first tried golf when his mother bought him plastic clubs as a toddler so he could distract himself while she looked after his younger brother. Haha!!!

Spieth sounds like such a great guy! Much cooler than cummy old Tiger Woods! People tend to get better at golf as they age, so I'm sure there's many more years of wins for Jordan Spieth in the future! Congrats on your victory, Mr. Spieth!

Coachella Fashion

Coachella, the Cali Music festival starts today! I am so jealous of everyone who gets to go this year! Hopefully I will make it there one year soon.. it's definitely on my bucket list! For all you Coachella goers, this could be a fun time for you to try some hair chalk:

...If you haven't heard of it, it's chalk that colors your hair and will wash out once you shampoo. I've been dying to try this.

I am thinking that this year we will see a lot more of overalls and flannel shirts at Coachella since they are now back "in", so to speak. I have never been a fan of flower crowns or fanny packs, but I love to see what the concert goers choose to wear. Here are some of my favorite looks for Coachella-- with a few of my favorite celebrities thrown in!

As you can see, I still love all the Hills stars even though their show ended a long time ago! How perfect is Audrina Patridge? Does she ever take a bad picture or wear a lousy outfit? I'm not a fan of Vanessa Hudgens's yearly Coachella looks (they always look like she is trying a little too hard), but I included her since she was in a collage I found! Props to Ms. Hudgens for her enthusiasm, though! TGIF readers, and cheers to festival season!
